Emirates to add a third daily direct flight to Melbourne

Emirates will replace its Fifth-freedom flights between Singapore and Melbourne with a third daily direct flight between Dubai and Melbourne.


Using its newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, Emirates will operate the third daily flight between Dubai and Melbourne. The outbound flight – EK404 – will depart Dubai in the evening and arrive in Melbourne the following afternoon. The return flight – EK405 – will depart Melbourne before midnight and arrive in Dubai the following morning.


The retrofitted 777s have 328 seats in a four-class configuration, featuring 8 First Class Suites, 40 Business, 24 of the airline's new Premium Economy product, and 256 Economy seats.


Between Dubai and Melbourne, Emirates operates two daily direct flights using its Airbus A380 superjumbos. The third daily flight will replace the current Dubai-Singapore-Melbourne flights. According to Emirates, the airline plans to launch a fourth daily flight Dubai and Singapore.


Emirates currently operates 77 weekly flights to five cities in Australia – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. The recent additions being Adelaide (October 28) and a second daily flight to Perth (December 1).
